Why I became a wedding photographer – Wedding Photographer in San Diego origin story

Beautiful bride-to-be showing off her enagagement ring by Amy Huang Photography a San Diego Photographer

Becoming a professional wedding photographer isn’t as easy as saying “let’s start a business”. Wedding photography takes a certain someone to be successful in the business and not everyone has the gumption, love and drive to conquer all the obstacles that come your way in this industry.

It takes someone with the love of learning to excel in the industry because being unique is such an important thing to thrive in an industry of doppelgängers. That’s why portrait photographers look at us and think… “these people must have a masochistic tendency”.

How it all began!

It began with cameras – lots of them! My father was a photographer. And that just means that I had the most amazing photos during my childhood. It also meant that I had a camera in my hand for as long as I could remember.

And as I got older, we started sitting down and having discussions on compositions and leading lines. When the digital camera finally made its debut, I was one of the lucky ones to have one in my hand.

Photos of a stranger

It took me until 4 years ago to understand the true importance of photography.

You’re probably wondering who these two are above? Well… one of them is me, and the other is of my twin sister that I never knew. And if I knew her, it was only for a short 9 months. But it didn’t occur to me how important these photos were and what they signified, until 4 years ago.

These are the only photos I have of her. It’s the evidence of her existence and short life. Without these photos, I would have nothing to remember or know her. And that’s how important photos are.

Photos can jog the memory. It freezes moments in time, giving them life for the future. And sometimes, it’s the only way for us to remember – especially as our memories are so short-lived.

My why!

And that’s why I became a wedding photographer. I became a wedding photographer to capture memories in a way that brings back to life a moment in time that could easily be forgotten.

Photos can jog the memory. It freezes moments in time, giving them life. for the future

I understand, intensely, how important photos are. Without them, how lost would we be as to who we were and where we came from. And as much as your wedding day seems like the most important day of your life – it is still a small fragment in time of a large tapestry that makes up your life.

One day you will barely remember what your flowers look like. You might not even be friends with some of your bridesmaids in your wedding party. But, the photos will be there of the joy, the fun and the beauty of that one special day in your life!

And that’s where I come in! I love weddings! I love the beauty and elegance in every event! And I am there to make sure that, in the years to come, you will have tangible and detailed memories for you to look back on!

After all, you’ve spent 6 months to a 1 year planning every minute details for your wedding, every detail deserves to be preserved! And, that is one of my specialities… my love for detail and capturing the beauty in every event!
